Bliss Ripple is a catalog of clues— fieldnotes for living into one’s internal bliss. Compiled through the creative works of poet, artist, musician, and mama Maggie A. Bishop, Bliss Ripple explores the idea of resounding joy— how to create it and expand it through living with passionate honesty.

Here you will find poems, songs, and observations written under the influence of inspiration Maggie finds scuttling and searching amidst the varied Missouri landscape with her wonder-son, adventurer Arlo, and her artist-partner and dream confidant Josh (who is also a photographer and music promoter).

Timelined:

Thursday August 30th, 2007-- Josh takes off work, we continue our move from K-Ville to Brashear. Its hard and icky and I get grumpy easily. We sleep in our new residence in Brashear for the first time. Delilah dog cuddles up in our bed.

Friday August 31st, 2007-- Another day spent moving. Finally all done. We go to the first of three Left Hand Black shows we will attend that weekend.

Saturday September 1st, 2007-- Josh meets with the landlord. We're officially done with her. We pick my brother up and go watch Superbad. Super funny. We get ready for the second Left Hand Black show. Beers are had and a show is watched. A good time had by all.

Sunday September 2nd, 2007-- We finally get a refrigerator in our new place. It doesn't fit quite right, oh well. We get ready for the third Left Hand Black show. It is in Iowa and they are playing with The Murder Junkies. We are pretty freaking excited. The show is amazing. We hang out backstage afterwards. Dino, the Drummer, strips down naked (which consists of him removing the G-string he performed in and replacing the plaid flannel pajamas pants he was wearing prior to their set). He is just about to walk out when he looks over to our corner and says he needs to give some kisses first. He walks over to me and kisses me on the lips before I know what is happening. He says the likes my outfit, and that he's been admiring it all night. Josh sits in the chair next to me and laughs. He didn't realize 'til this weekend Dino kissed me on the lips and not the cheek.

Monday the 3rd through Thursday the 6th, 2007-- Work is hella busy with the fitness testing and getting ready for our annual triathlon. Thursday after work I go to the pet store and adopt a kitten. She is black and I named her Marley Sue.

Friday September 7th, 2007-- Josh and I celebrate my best friend Maurine's birthday with her. We grill out, make Reese's treats, watch Year of the Dog and drink Budweiser. I have no candle for the Reese's cake so I light a sparkler and sing Happy Birthday to Maurine. She warns me on fire hazards and then appreciates the gesture.

Saturday September 8th, 2007-- My parents pick up Josh and I and we head to his parent's for a family dinner. On the road we get a call from my brother, away at college, he fell off his longboard while barefoot. We enjoy an abbreviated dinner and then head to Como to take the little boy to the E.R. We don't get home until around midnight. Bed around 1:30am. We have to be at the triathlon site the next morning at 5:30am.

Sunday September 9th, 2007-- I get up at 3:45am, fix breakfast and do dishes. Josh gets up, we eat and then head to the lake for the triathlon. Its dark and cool.
The race is a success. We get back home and crash. Napping until later in the afternoon. We then get up and take a jaunt around our new town with the girls. Delilah loves it, Marley isn't too sure. We take pictures and then come home. Delilah eats a rubber band and pukes. Marley just pukes. Its like we have kids.

Monday September 10th through Thursday the 13th, 2007-- Back to work. I begin to notice Marley is not eating. I start getting very concerned. Monday I feel incredibly ill because I have ran out of my medicine. I have a minute breakdown. I fill my prescription and things get better. We find out Todd Snider is going to play in St. Louis on Friday the 14th, we talk it over and buy tickets. Marley still won't eat. I begin to make myself sick with worry. Thursday evening Josh and I have enough time at home together to talk things over. We decide to take Marley to the vet Friday morning before we leave town.

Friday September 14th, 2007-- We get up early. Pack up the kids and head into town. Delilah gets dropped off at the parent's and we go to the pet store I got Marley from to see if they have had any other trouble with illness in the rest of her litter. They are inconsiderate, and deny any trouble (even though I observed one kitten that's nose was crusty, eyes were mucky, and was breathing through its mouth). They do give us antibiotic though. We aren't satisfied with this help and take Marley to the vet. They are very helpful and considerate. Marley weighs a mere 1.7lbs (at almost 3 months old). The vet treats what we come to find out is a boy Marley. We take him to my parent's and he finally begins to eat. We feel so much better and get on the road to go see Todd Snider.
We arrive in Como, pick up our friend, and fellow Todd enthusiast, Matt and then meet up with my brother and his college posse. We head to St. Louis, getting there right in time for the first opening act. We sit through three opening acts, all the while just steeping with anticipation for Todd. The bands get done and Todd comes out. The first song puts tears in my eyes. Holy shit, I can't believe this man is standing in front of me singing. I sing along and raise my drink in agreement. I think Todd smiles at me once or twice. Its amazing.
We walk back to the car at around 10:45pm. Second later Matt confesses to locking his keys in the trunk. We wait around for a locksmith. I have to pee majorly bad. There are cops around so Josh and I act like were are walking to a gas station but I stop in the shadows before we get there and squat by some corporate offices. The car eventually gets unlocked. We are an our way. Someone feels we are going the wrong directions so we turn around and end up in Illinois. We turn back around and get back to Como around 3am.

Saturday September 15th, 2007-- We rise and shine, go to Josh's parent's for some family time. His grandmother blesses us with her and her late husband's wedding bands, which will, on October 27th, become our wedding bands. She also allows me to borrow a small silver clock pendant to wear as my something borrowed. We eventually get back north, pick up the kids (Marley, who's middle name is now Todd, is doing much better). We get home, finally!

Sunday September 16th, 2007-- Sleep in. Get up and be bums. I start making Marley a toy while fixing lunch and watching Jesus Camp. We sit down to lunch and finish Jesus Camp, and Marley's toy. We watch Jesus Camp again with the commentary on. Now the whole house is napping, except me. Who is finally getting down the last few hurricane weeks. For progeny's sake. And because I'm getting old and forgetful. Hopefully in the coming days I'll be able to expound on some of these happenings. Because they really deserve that.
