Bliss Ripple is a catalog of clues— fieldnotes for living into one’s internal bliss. Compiled through the creative works of poet, artist, musician, and mama Maggie A. Bishop, Bliss Ripple explores the idea of resounding joy— how to create it and expand it through living with passionate honesty.

Here you will find poems, songs, and observations written under the influence of inspiration Maggie finds scuttling and searching amidst the varied Missouri landscape with her wonder-son, adventurer Arlo, and her artist-partner and dream confidant Josh (who is also a photographer and music promoter).

Hippies.

Yesterday was grocery shopping day. Josh only gets paid once a month so we have to make an effort to buy up most of our groceries at the beginning of the month, when we have the monies. For some reason, perhaps all the herb we consume, I have been becoming a bit more heath and eco-conscious. So far it is just baby steps towards a healthier lifestyle, but every little bit helps I believe.

Some purchases of note:

Pomegranate juice that we are going to mix with iced sweet tea. Pomegranate is suppose to be naturally infused with lots of good stuff for us. And we love sweet tea, so why not try it out? (Verdict in: Josh really likes the tea, he told me at lunch today that it was really good tea, which is a pretty big compliment because his dad makes the best tea...)

Cage free brown eggs. Meat and dairy products are always some of the hardest for me to purchase. I do not at all agree with some of the tactics used today for the raising of meat and dairy products. The idea of a rows and rows of chickens stacked on top of the other just breaks my heart. Especially since when we were younger my family raised egg laying chickens and they were beautiful creatures. When I saw these cage free eggs I felt better about buying them, even though they were a bit more expensive. Josh had a good take on it though, saying he would rather pay an extra 20 cents to know that the chicken that laid his eggs wasn't a vegetable.

Granola, yogurt, and fruit for breakfast parfaits.

Like I said, these are just little steps. In this day and age it is difficult to become more conscious, especially when one is on a budget like us. Unhealthy and unethical products are much cheaper. Ultimately I would love to be more self sustaining. We dream of owning our own place one day and I always ask Josh if it can be farmish. Not a full fledged farm by any means, but someplace I could raise a few chickens, have a nice garden, and such. I would love to be the provider of a larger amount of the things we consume. Get away from the commercialism of this world and live a simpler way.
