My Womanifesto

Bliss Ripple is a catalog of clues— fieldnotes for living into one’s internal bliss. Compiled through the creative works of poet, artist, musician, and mama Maggie A. Bishop, Bliss Ripple explores the idea of resounding joy— how to create it and expand it through living with passionate honesty.

Here you will find poems, songs, and observations written under the influence of inspiration Maggie finds scuttling and searching amidst the varied Missouri landscape with her wonder-son, adventurer Arlo, and her artist-partner and dream confidant Josh (who is also a photographer and music promoter).

Rockers do it to the beat.

My headband, by Matt Bryson

Last weekend Joshua and I embarked on a mini-adventure involving lotso music, friends, beer, smoke, and pictures-- wonderful wonderful pictures. Josh has begun a small production company here in the 'ville and thusly has obtained quite a few contacts in the music scene around this area. We have made lots of kick ass friends through this and heard/seen some amazing shows. A couple bands we are friends with were playing at a Rock and Roll Fest in Slater (tiny-town), Missouri. We didn't have the money to pay the admission, but Josh made a deal to trade our photography skill for admissions. This turned out to be such a rewarding venture.
We started our trek in Como, picking up our friends Patrick (fellow rocker) and Matt (fellow photographer). We then made our way to the country. The fest was held around Slater Lake. The setting was picturesque with the sparkling water, the train tracks across the rock lane, and the stage set up under a shelter house. There were ten bands and we saw nine (missing the first one because we got a smidgen lost, but that turned out positively because Matt caught an awesome shot of a small yellow bus that had 'Bryson Bunch' spray painted on the side).
The fest was bring your own beer, and that we did. We also brought our own tents (we were the only ones), so we could drink and have a good time and not have to worry about driving home (drinking and driving is BAD, don't do it, camp out under the stars instead)! The night consisted of watching fucking rock bands, taking countless (Josh shot over 400!) pictures, drinking cheap beer and conversating in the dark around the car and the port-o-pot. I wish I were able to post more pictures, but I shot film that night and haven't gotten it processed yet. Let me tell you one thing, it was so nice shooting film again. It makes me more of a conscientious photographer. I'll post the good shit when I get it. Right now I'll leave you with one final though and a picture of our gang the next morning in front of a very special sign:
One is not truly a rocker chick until she has changed her feminine hygiene product (blatantly put-- tampon) in a port-o-potty, in the dark, after a few beers, with t.p. taken from the car. And let me tell you, I am a true rocker chick...

I went to high school about 15 miles from Slater. Isn't it a sad little American town?
