My Womanifesto

Bliss Ripple is a catalog of clues— fieldnotes for living into one’s internal bliss. Compiled through the creative works of poet, artist, musician, and mama Maggie A. Bishop, Bliss Ripple explores the idea of resounding joy— how to create it and expand it through living with passionate honesty.

Here you will find poems, songs, and observations written under the influence of inspiration Maggie finds scuttling and searching amidst the varied Missouri landscape with her wonder-son, adventurer Arlo, and her artist-partner and dream confidant Josh (who is also a photographer and music promoter).

Polaroid Tuesday.

I braved the cold today in order to take some photographs for class. I was sure, after being outside for a mere thirty-minutes, that I had aquired frostbite. My fingers are still attached though, so I guess not, but still it was fucking cold. I drove North, on Highway 63, until I reached the junction of roads W and E. I photographed the junction signs facing South so they read EW and then I photographed the signs facing North so they read WE-- EW WE. I am pending the title "We are always going in seperate directions." Though, I doubt the shots turned out well because I could barely see straight due the the blustering wind and bone chilling cold.
After shooting along side the Highway I took some back roads to one of my favorite spots out in the country. An old abandon church out in Amish country. It is Amish country, you can tell, by the laundry hanging on the lines and the fact that on those old gravel/dirt roads there are more buggy tracks than tire marks. I passed one Amish residence that has a multitude of guinea hens grazing (or pecking) along side the road, it was amusing.
When I got to the church I took a few photographs with Josh's SLR camera, but mostly I played with my Mom's old Polaroid. I love Polaroid pictures. There is something so quaint about them, at least to me. When my brother and I were young that is the only "family" camera we had and therefore we have countless events documented in that manner. My shots today are rather shoddy. It was insanely cold and I believe that affected the development of the film. Nonetheless, I enjoyed playing with the camera and would like to share the shots:

My first shots, in front of a gutted, keyless piano.

The windows are broken out, and the pull-blinds are frayed, but there is something so beautiful about this old chuch. The fan designs at the bottom of the photos are a result of me sticking them in my back pant's pocket while they were developing, I believe. The film said to place them someplace warm if the temperature was below 55 degrees farenheit... I think the chemicals got squished.

And, a couple bonus shots of Delilah Fae, because basically she is my child.
